Exhibition “Potato” at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie

Antoine Parmentier would pinch himself if he saw that today we are dedicating an exhibition to the glory of the potato. To think of all the opponents that he had to face to promote it!

In his time, under Louis XVI, only animals and the needy fed on the potato. It was believed that it transmitted leprosy, plague and even scrofula … The tuber was not always this popular with the public, a smash hit in the form of fries – before being marketed by McCain, it had been a victim of McCarthyism, a real food witch hunt.

Nowadays it has become widely accepted, and the tuber will be seen at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie, which beckons us to rediscover it in all its forms be it historical, agronomic and of course, culinary. We will not only come out with the potato but will also feel like rushing to have mashed potatoes.

Open till 6th January 2019
Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie
30, avenue Corentin-Cariou
75019 Paris
